Why we chose the name “Pharos Intelligence”
Our name is inspired by the Pharos of Alexandria, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. As the tallest man-made structure of its time, the lighthouse stood as a beacon of strength, scale, and ingenuity—qualities we see reflected in the nonprofit sector that has been built over the last century in the United States.
Over time, the Pharos was damaged by a series of earthquakes—a reminder that even the most remarkable structures can face destabilizing forces. Today’s nonprofit sector is weathering its own kind of disruption, shaped by federal funding cuts, economic volatility, and evolving expectations. Like the original Pharos, which guided ships safely into port through darkness and storm, we aim to serve as a guiding light for mission-driven organizations navigating this moment of uncertainty.
Additionally, the word intelligence carries dual meaning in our name. It reflects our commitment to providing organizations with actionable insight—information that illuminates, clarifies, and empowers decision-making. But it also speaks to the deeper philosophical definition of intelligence: the capacity to adapt, solve problems, and respond even when there is no clear map forward.

Our goal is help social sector leaders strengthen their position and build resilience so they can weather whatever storm comes their way, so that they don’t suffer the same fate as the Pharos of Alexandria.
